How Kabrita Helped Valery Ease Her Son's Eczema
Every parent’s feeding experience is as unique as their baby. While the journey may be easy for some, others may struggle. Real Parent Story is a series on our blog where we ask real parents to share their feeding stories. Whether you’re expecting or already have little one, we hope these stories can offer you insight into what worked (or didn’t work) for parents just like you.
Today, we will be sharing Valery’s story!
How did you first hear of Kabrita?
I first heard of Kabrita when I was pregnant with Byron. My best friend Kathy had been raising her step daughter who was on Kabrita.
Why did your family have a need for goat milk formula?
My son had been on breastmilk for the first 3 months of his life. As a first time mother, I was afraid my breast milk was not enough. I followed some advice to try formula and give my son both so I was secure that in the event that I could not provide breast milk, he would be used to formula. That’s when we found out he was severely allergic to not just cow milk based formula but a lot of formulas on the market. I was devastated thinking I caused my son’s eczema and I then pumped for about 9mo exclusively. As things got harder and my breastfeeding journey drew to an end, I decided to try Kabrita for the first time. He slightly reacted as he does when we give him anything new but with in a day the redness was gone and from then on we have been giving him Kabrita and he does so well on it.
If related to symptoms being experienced by your child, can you describe them? And also describe how drinking Kabrita may have helped with those?
My son now has eczema after we tried cow milk based and soy based formulas. Eczema is complicated in the sense that we aren’t exactly sure exactly the cause. Research has traced it back to an unhealthy gut. Kabrita is helpful as it is easier for my son to digest giving room for a healthier gut. Many formulas are hydrolyzed in an attempt to have the same gentle effect as Kabrita but my son’s body rejected them all.
If related to your need to supplement with or switch to formula, please describe why you chose to do so and why Kabrita seemed like a good solution?
Kabrita seemed like a good solution as goat milk is known for its smaller curds and gentler digestion qualities.
Did the ‘European quality’ element have an influence in your decision to try Kabrita?
I had not heard of the ‘European Quality’ until I read this question! However after doing my research and reading about goat milk benefits for babies, I was baffled as to why more goat milk based formulas were not readily available in the US and I did question the quality of nutrition available for infants and children and the standards to with which those are held.
How did your child take/transition to Kabrita?
With zero issues! He had rejected anything that was not my breast milk before then, but he loves it!
What do you think of Kabrita’s flavor?
It’s taste is pretty mild but does remind me of MY breast milk because it’s slightly sweet.
What is your favourite thing about Kabrita Formula?
I love that I can feed my son milk even now that my breastfeeding journey is complete. I love that he does not react to it. As I researched further and further into the brand, I love what Kabrita stands for.
Is there anything else you’d like to add or share?
I wish Kabrita was more accessible in the US especially the the earlier stages. I am an advocate for this formula and even though I breast fed and promote breastfeeding, when the journey ends, mothers need better options to feed their babies if they still need milk!
