Top Remedies for Recurrent Ear Infections in Toddlers
Ear infections are common in toddlers and young children, and the ear pain associated can be very unpleasant. If your little one gets recurrent ear infections, consider these easy tips to help prevent and manage the next one.
1. Move fluid by doing a gentle ear massage
The pain associated with ear infections is caused by pressure behind the eardrum from fluid build up. To help move the fluid, place two fingers on the bone behind your child’s ear. With firm but gentle pressure, slowly drag your fingers down the side of the neck, until you reach the collarbone. Continue for a few minutes on each side. Aim to do this a few times a day during an ear infection, or once a day to help prevent recurrence.
2. Vitamin D for toddlers
Vitamin D is an important nutrient and children who are deficient may be at higher risk of recurrent ear infections. Toddlers should get 600 IU of vitamin D per day.
3. Consider cow dairy as a trigger
Dietary triggers, such as cow dairy, may contribute to inflammation in the body and increase the risk of ear infection in some children. If cow milk seems to be contributing to your little one’s recurrent ear infections, swap it out for Kabrita Goat Milk Formula* and Kabrita Goat Milk Yogurt and Fruit* pouches.
